Before and After Kitchen Makeover – Traditional to Transitional

Before Style: Traditional

Before List of client’s dislikes:

  • Too dark
  • The cabinets were too narrow, leading to storage problems
  • No symmetry between the upper and lower cabinets which made the kitchen look very busy.
  • Layout–The aisles were too narrow
  • Countertops – No one sat at the peninsula bar which closed up the kitchen
  • Lacked countertop space
  • 1 sink wasn’t enough
  • The space was not laid-out properly with the result being that it felt much smaller than needed
  • Lighting- too dark and had a lot of dark spots
  • Stove in the island
  • There was a hallway in the kitchen adjacent to the fridge.

Before List of likes by my clients:

  • The kitchen sink in front of the window

Goal: Transform their maze-like and impractical Traditional/Tuscany Kitchen into a fully-functional gourmet

  • Transitional/Modern Kitchen.

After List:

  • Installed as many recessed lights as possible, plus 2 decorative chandeliers to add a little glam!
  • Chose light colored cabinets with strong lines to define a Transitional look
  • Chose cabinets with sufficient storage to make sure that everything in the kitchen could be easily stored
  • Removed the peninsula and installed 1 giant island for cooking and eating
  • Centered the stove inthe island and added a prep sink
  • Closed off the hallway and put the fridge to the left of the stove to establish a working triangle.
  • Chrome and stainless steel appliances with hood
  • Reclaimed wood in the bar stools for contrast
  • Overall Appearance: Bright, balanced, big, beautiful with a very functional gourmet kitchen.
